Are you interested in the natural sciences and want to look beyond the boundaries of a single discipline? Or do you want to focus on one discipline and become an expert in that specific field? The Maastricht Science Programme offers you the opportunity to explore the natural sciences and to build a unique academic profile based on your personal interests and ambitions. Every semester, your personal academic advisor guides you in selecting courses from fields as diverse as biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, neuroscience and various interdisciplinary fields such as biomedical engineering and entrepreneurship. You can focus on a single discipline, or you can combine multiple disciplines in a single degree. Why study sciences in Maastricht?
There is no longer a start in February

As someone who learns by speaking and listening rather than from books, PBL matches my learning style and helps me pick up knowledge quicker.
I chose to study at Maastricht University based on the university’s international reputation as one of the leading young universities.
Working in the Brightlands labs gives a good indication of how scientific research is conducted and provides skills required for properly working in the lab after MSP.
It's really exciting that MSP is a new programme, because you feel like you can still have an impact
I was quite relieved that I found a programme that uses the benefits of an open curriculum in the Liberal Arts and Science manner.
MSP best represents the extraordinary internationality of the Maastricht University student body.
I am really enjoying getting to experiment with subject choice and gain useful insight into so many fields in a way I think will help my future career through the interdisciplinary nature of science.
I was quite unsure of the direction I wanted to go into when starting MSP, but the RBL system helped me a lot!

Leon Claessens
Former Dean of the Maastricht Science Programme
“When you look at the amount of choice that students have at the Maastricht Science Programme to build their own curriculum, coupled with the advising and the academic resources, the potential is limitless."
Severine Dufour
Planner
“I have worked with many different kinds of students -economics students, law students, American exchange students- and I think the MSP students are quite special."
Roy Erkens
Senior lecturer Evolution and Biodiversity
“What really makes the MSP special is the small-scale teaching and the close contact with students. Us as teachers get to know you as students very well and vice versa. Because of this, I can teach you a lot more than what you need to know to just pass my exams.”
Bart van Grinsven
MSP Assistant Professor
I love introducing students to the world of research and seeing them light up and enjoy themselves while learning to produce publishable work. For me, the key to being a true educator is to simulate the professional world as closely as possible and give students a taste of what lies beyond their diploma.
Brigitte Giezenaar
MSP Department Manager
At the MSP, you’re not just a number. We try to create an environment for students where you feel heard, where you feel safe and where you can work on becoming the best version of yourself—whatever you want to do in the future.
Thomas Cleij
MSP Founder, Faculty of Science and Engineering Dean
We try to educate people who can solve the global challenges of today and of the future. I don't think that my generation of scientists, who focus on one subject in very great detail, is capable of doing that. Therefore, we need to train a generation with a broader knowledge base and a different set of skills.
