Prior to coming to MSP, I did not really know what discipline interests me the most in the sciences. In fact, I was quite relieved that I found a programme that uses the benefits of an open curriculum in the Liberal Arts and Science manner, so that the students can shape their own individual education. Now, I am specialising in chemistry and mathematics and I find a huge variety of courses in those fields to fill my interdisciplinary timetable.
Here at MSP, I sometimes feel like being back in my little village in Germany. Everyone knows each other and so finds themself in a very personal and individual atmosphere between staff and students. This is really a bonus of the small and engaging community in the faculty in which you always find help for academic as well as personal concerns.
It is, moreover, due to that tight community, that MSP managed to quickly adapt to the prevalent pandemic precautions, enabling a full-on online and remote education. I am astonished how fast and thoroughly the programme transitioned online, without having to cancel any courses or exams, compensating practical laboratory work with simulations and individually finetuning the assessments.
Furthermore, every tutorial room in our new building at PHS1 is now equipped with cameras and microphones, so that all the students that feel sick or are prohibited to come to the PBL sessions in person are able to join the class remotely in a video conference. With the help of small-scale tutorials, that allow for 1,5 meters distance, and online lectures, no student is forced to delay their studies due to the Covid-19 restrictions and is enabled to participate safely in person or remotely to their liking.
