Working in the Brightlands labs gives a good indication of how scientific research is conducted and provides skills required for properly working in the lab after MSP.

Before MSP, I already knew that I liked Neuroscience and Biology. Therefore, one of the reasons for choosing MSP was the ability to combine those two subjects together. What I discovered at MSP was that I wasn’t just interested in Neuroscience and Biology, but I enjoyed combining them in the interdisciplinary courses and projects with other subjects, as chemistry, as well.

The interactive ways of learning in the Problem Based Learning (PBL) system was one of the things I had to get used to the most in the beginning. However, in my experience, it really helps studying and is much more entertaining than passively listening to lectures. Besides PBL, we often have skill trainings at the Brightlands labs at Chemelot. I mostly enjoy the biochemistry related skills. I also think that working in the Brightlands labs gives a good indication of how scientific research is conducted and provides skills required for properly working in the lab after MSP.

Even though MSP is a growing programme, there is much communication with the staff and you know most of the students, which also makes for good group dynamics during PBL tutorials.

Something I believe makes MSP special, is everyone’s story. When you ask someone where they are from, you will often get a complicated answer involving many cities all over the world. This creates a very diverse environment with all kinds of cultures. And thanks to our study association, you will also get to know a lot of the students and have a great time.

As someone who learns by speaking and listening rather than from books, PBL matches my learning style and helps me pick up knowledge quicker.
