Digital Society

Are you interested in understanding how digital technologies are changing the world? Are you eager to develop knowledge and skills to ensure that digital technologies result in good outcomes for different social groups? Are you open to various disciplinary perspectives and willing to learn how to combine them? Then the new bachelor’s programme in Digital Society might be right for you.

The Digital Society bachelor’s programme will provide you with tools to better understand the history of the digital revolution and the impact of digitalisation on today’s society, culture and politics so that you can play an effective role in shaping the digital transformations of tomorrow.

Rafael de la Rocha, Student Ambassador Digital Society 2023-2024

Why Rafael chose to study Digital Society
“When I made the decision about which bachelor’s degree I wanted to do, I first asked myself: “What is the job I want to do?” That’s where I started. Eventually, I want to be a UX designer. That job entails a lot of things I enjoy doing already. I have an urge to create things and I am obsessed with technology.  I choose to study in Maastricht because of the central location in Europe and because it is very international. Coming from a small island, Fuerteventura, it was a big change!”

What Rafael enjoys most about this study
“What I like about Digital Society is that it is very interdisciplinary. It provides me with an ethical perspective about things that are happening right now. For example, when ChatGPT came out, we discussed it in class immediately. We spoke about things like: how will it affect us all in society? How can we use it as a tool for progress instead of just entertainment?”

Rafael de la Rocha

“This programme is about what is happening right now in the world around us. And it provides an ethical perspective to make sense of how technology will affect our society.”
