Tomás (Portugal), student International and European Tax Law
You get really practical knowledge and the professors are really approachable.

Hi, my name is Tomás. I'm from Portugal, and I'm pursuing the International and European Tax Law Master's at Maastricht University, specialising in Customs and International Supply Chain Taxation.

After completing my Bachelor's in European Law, I knew I wanted to continue my international legal education. Taking a tax course during my Bachelor's piqued my interest in this field, as I found it fascinating, with engaging disputes and ethical questions. The Master's in this area seemed like a natural next step, especially with the excellent professional opportunities it offers.

Choosing Maastricht was an easy decision for me. Having already experienced the high-quality education and vibrant city during my Bachelor's, I knew this would be the right place for my Master's. The Problem-Based Learning (PBL) method and the city's welcoming environment made the choice even clearer.

The Master's programme is demanding, but with good organisation and staying up to date with readings, it is manageable. The PBL system requires you to come prepared to class, which enhances the learning experience. Despite the workload, life in Maastricht is fantastic. The city is safe, vibrant, and full of students, with events happening all the time. It's easy to make friends from all over the world, which adds to the overall experience.

My favorite courses included Fundamentals of International Taxation and International Business Taxation. The latter stood out to me because of the fascinating tax issues we explored and its focus on upcoming developments in the field, such as Pillar Two. It was highly relevant and engaging.

If you're looking to practice international tax, Maastricht is the place to be. The programme offers practical knowledge, and the approachable professors enhance the quality of education. Living in this dynamic and international city for a year is an incredible bonus to an already outstanding academic experience.
