Tea Osmenaj (Albania), Epidemiology
I like to raise awareness about sustainable lifestyle to improve people’s overall health

Studying at Maastricht University (UM) is a personalised, life enriching experience that prepares you for the future, both professionally as personally. Our bachelor’s and master’s programmes are designed for students who have an intrinsic curiosity in human behaviour and health. Students who want to ‘go the extra mile’ on a professional and/or personal level. What’s your extra mile?

“I have a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences, also from Maastricht University. In my masters, I wanted to deepen my previous scientific knowledge with a research-based approach in health-related topics. Moreover, I’m a great fan of the Problem-Based Learning method as it resembles a job setting. Our discussions lead to solving problems.

During my bachelor’s I became interested in the epidemiological approach of health, which made me look into health-related master’s programmes. I chose this master’s because it’s a 1-year programme with a focus on research and because I think Problem-Based Learning is even more important in a master’s environment. Moreover, UM is one of the top universities in Europe. I also feel very much at home in Maastricht, so the choice was a natural one.

I’m very interested in sustainability and environmental issues because I think they have a huge impact on the population’s health. In my view, health should be one’s number one priority and I want to raise awareness about a sustainable lifestyle to improve people’s overall health. My aim is to contribute to that from a scientific standpoint. I want to become the best version of myself and expand my knowledge, my experience and my network. My dream job would be to work for the World Health Organization (WHO) as an epidemiologist. At some point in the future, I intend to go back to Albania but only after I’ve gained enough expertise to really contribute to society there.”

Tea posts weekly on Instagram about her experiences during the master's programme and her life in Maastricht.

She's also happy to answer your questions about the programme and about (student) life in Maastricht via DM on Instagram.
