Practical: Systematic Literature Search
Full course description
Conducting research or writing a paper generally requires literature research.
UM students are expexted to produce work of integrity during their academic career. Their work should adhere to the scholarly standards of accurate attribution of information sources. Misrepresenting someone else's ideas as one’s own violates the standards of the academic community. In this practical, students learn how to reference and cite their information sources and learn how to recognize and avoid plagiarism. In addition, students continue their training in how to systematically search for information sources.
Course objectives
Students can:
- explain what citing and referencing is;
- recognise when to include a citation to a source;
- explain what plagiarism is;
- differentiate different forms of plagiarism;
- apply the proper techniques to avoid plagiarism;
- employ systematic search techniques when searching for information.
