European Privacy and Data Protection Fundamentals
Full course description
The purpose of this course is to provide the students with knowledge of European privacy and data protection law. Fundamental issues of privacy and data protection from the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Directive on Data Protection for Prevention of Criminal Offences will be covered, together with the fundamental rights aspects of this protection as regulated by the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union and the European Convention on Human Rights. Moreover, crucial cases of the Court of Justice of the EU and the European Court of Human Rights will be discussed, together with the practical aspects of implementation of these judgments by companies and regulatory responses by policy-makers.
