Analysing Arts II
Full course description
This sequel to Analyzing Art offers you a more advanced introduction to a key methodology often used by Art and Culture students to analyze visual and literary works of art: narratology. In particular, we will discuss the applicability of this method to different types of genres and media. The course consists of a series of workshop-like meetings dedicated to short stories, the short story composite, comics and the classical Hollywood cinema.
Course objectives
Upon completion of this skills course, you will be able to:
- deepen your understanding of one of the methodologies of artistic analysis you were introduced to in Analysing Art: narratology;
- utilize the specialized analytical vocabularies that is specific to this methodology;
- tailor this methodology to the medium-specificity of its object of study (text)
Prerequisites
The course builds on the first-year skills course Analysing Art.
