  • UM Law Faculty holds high position in 2024 THE subject ranking

    In the 2024 rankings the faculty holds the 19th position. Looking at all law faculties within the European Union, we are very proud to see that we also kept the fourth place in this prestigious ranking.

    Covering 13 subject areas, Times Higher Education’s (THE) annual World Subject Rankings provides an overview of the best places in the world to study a chosen discipline. The rankings table for LAW uses the same range of 6 performance indicators as the overall World University Rankings combined with scores provided under the following five categories: Teaching, Research, Citations, International outlook, and Industry income.

  • Great appreciation for the distinctive profile and the high quality of Globalisation and Law graduates

    The assessment panel is enthusiastic about the ambitious and distinctive profile of Globalisation and Law, with its focus on the impact of globalisation on international law and international law-making processes.

    The panel is pleased with the academic as well as professional orientation of the programme. It shows a well-balanced combination of academic knowledge of and insights into the content of the law on the one hand and academic and professional skills on the other. The panel appreciates the strong connection to the professional field through guest lecturers, real-life cases and assignments, allowing students to get acquainted with the professional field and prepare for their future careers. The panel is positive about the coherence of the programme. Globalisation and Law stands out with its ample opportunities for students to adjust their programmes towards their individual interests, needs and future careers.

    The panel appreciates the problem-based learning approach in the programme. It identified some very positive elements of this approach, such as the close involvement of students and staff and the stimulation of active and collaborative learning. It considers the involvement of all members of the teaching staff, including professors, a national best practice.

    The highly supportive and collaborative international study climate clearly works as a motivator.

    The panel is impressed with the quality of the teaching staff involved in the master’s programme Globalisation and Law. The lecturers are highly trained and internationally renowned for their experience in teaching and researching comparative, European and international law.

    All interviewed alumni were very positive about their programme, and the panel established that they are quite successful in their careers. It particularly valued the high quality of Globalisation and Law graduates.

    The NVAO accreditation (valid from 2019 to 2025) concludes that the master Globalisation and Law obtained a successful accreditation advice and was awarded a ‘good’ assessment. Meaning that this programme scored above average. Read the full report by QANU.

  • UM is the 13th best Young University in the world

    The Young University Rankings 2020

    Maastricht University ranked 13th place in the 2023 Times Higher Education (THE) 'Young Universities' ranking for best young universities in the world. UM is proud that its efforts, including in the fields of education and research, have been rewarded in this ranking.

    In the 2021 QS 'Top 50 Under 50' (best universities in the world under 50 years old), UM rose from 23rd to 19th place. 

    These special rankings for young universities are published to give an indication as to which universities are expected in the future to become the top universities worldwide.
