Courses & curriculum 2024 - 2025

The Research Master's programme in Economic and Financial Research is a 2-year, full time programme taught entirely in English.

The first year combines training in research methodology while gaining a solid foundation on economic theories.  Most of the courses are organized in workshop format in which various intellectual and practical aspects of research methods are discussed and in which are reflected on economic theories.

In the second year, you have the opportunity to further specialize in your own personal research interests. You choose from a number of advanced courses within four disciplinary focus areas:

  • Econometrics, Finance and Monetary Economics
  • Economic Theory and Behaviour
  • Labour and Education
  • Technology, Innovation and Industrial Dynamics

Together with the programme coordinator, you are offered the freedom to personalize your curriculum to increase your career prospects in the best possible way.

Next to the methodological and disciplinary courses, we also focus on the development of your academic skills. During two different skills courses you will be trained in academic writing (year 1) and presentation skills (year 2).

The majority of our research master students participate in our teaching activities (first year), and participate in a research internship (second year). Thus, while receiving a financial compensation for participating in these activities, you get a first impression of life as an academic professional.
