Italian web-based and interactive course (one-on-one)

This one-on-one course is designed for students of all levels of the CEFR. It consists of four modules, in which you combine oral sessions with a coach and independent study to improve your language skills. The online self-study component is supported by effective language training on www.babbel.com  (levels A1-A2) and by a course book  (levels B1-B2). All courses make also use of online tools like www.quizlet.com and https://wordwall.net/. Specially developed extra-material complete the course. The focus is on speaking and listening skills.

After completing the fourth module, you’ll be able to communicate well in Italian, whether you are writing, speaking, presenting or debating.

Course 1 (Web-based IT-A1)

Course 1 is intended for people with no prior knowledge of Italian. Once you have completed this course, you would be able to:

  • greet people and introduce yourself and others
  • Ask for and give information about yourself and your family;
  • describe yourself and others physically and personally
  • describe habits and hobbies; indicate time, day and frequency;
  • talk about food and quantity
  • shopping and ordering in restaurants and bars
  • making an appointment;
  • talk about holiday activities;
  • describe houses and cities, identify location of buildings;
  • ask for and give tourist information;
  • have simple conversations in the present tense;
  • discuss daily activities such as work, study or sport.

Course 2 (Web-based IT-A2)

In this course, you will considerably improve your language skills. You will be able to:

  • inquiring about travel details;
  • talking about physical health;
  • planning social and welfare activities;
  • talking about social media and clarifying issues
  • give details of future projects;
  • talk about work and professions;
  • giving advice and orders; expressing preferences, wishes, polite requests;
  • describe and comment on films in the present and past;
  • describing childhood, habits, events and feelings in the past;
  • talk about housekeeping;
  • speaking about the past.

Course material:

In your independent study time, you will be working in Google Classroom, where you can download extra resources for free. You will need to subscribe at babbel.com. You can choose any subscription you like (the longer the subscription, the cheaper it is). Your coach will give you specific study materials and research assignments and use the effective language training of babbel.com.

Certificate A2: Upon completion of the course requirements, you will receive a participation certificate by mail.

Course 3 (Web-based IT-B1)

Registering for this course is only possible when you have passed the previous course or had an intake with one of our staff members.

You will learn how to:

  • give presentations on a current topic and lead a discussion;
  • reading and commenting on articles from a newspaper/internet site;
  • discuss topics such as climate, society, politics and culture;
  • describe symptoms, talk and read about health;
  • give advice and instruction;
  • making an appointment on the phone;
  • describe travel experiences and habits, advantages and disadvantages;
  • talk about films and books and give your own opinion about them;
  • suggesting activities;
  • talking about the past;
  • talking about the future: dreams and projects;
  • talking about family, society, work, mobility, new technologies;
  • expressing and motivating an opinion.

Certificate B1: Upon completion of the course requirements, you will receive a participation certificate by mail.

Course 4 (Web-based IT-B2)

This course is for people with a fairly high level of Italian. Meaning you are able to make yourself understood in common everyday situations even though you might not have the all the necessary vocabulary. In this module you will improve your ability to debate and present certain topics and you will learn to:

  • describe professional aims and requirements;  
  • express votes, wishes and consent;  
  • understand a job advertisement, write a CV, prepare a job interview;  
  • speaking about languages and dialects, cultures and education;  
  • speaking about cities, infrastructures, services, liveability, (sustainable) trade;  
  • expressing feasible and unrealistic hypotheses and speculating about these;  
  • expressing cause, aim and effect;  
  • expressing a positive or negative opinion;  
  • discuss sustainable tourism for the protection of artistic heritage;  
  • read argumentative, narrative, and explanatory texts;  
  • summarise information;  
  • report what others have said.

Certificate B2: Upon completion of the course requirements, you will receive a participation certificate by mail.

Registration and intake

You can register to a course by using our registration form. After registering, you will receive a confirmation.

Would you like to meet us for an intake or receive more information? Please send an email to Laura Capitani to make an appointment, free of charge. The appointment will take place via Zoom.

Book an intake well before the course is scheduled to begin. It will be simpler to make the appointment and you will have a greater chance of finding a place in the course of your choice.

Certificate and ECTS

After completing a module, you will receive a certificate and three ECTS credits. To be eligible for a certificate, you must attend all 8 sessions and have a sufficient score for both the written and oral exam(s). Written and oral exams will take place via Zoom.

To obtain these credits included on your degree certificate, you must submit a request to your Board of Examiners. Whether these credits are granted depends on your faculty.
