My name is Rufus Nordman. I am from Finland, and I am studying the International and European Tax Law programme at Maastricht University. I had already worked in the field of tax law for a few years in Finland but only with domestic tax law. So, I figured that studying International and European Tax Law would be a good way to expand my knowledge into the international arena as well. Therefore, I chose to apply to Maastricht University to deepen my understanding in these areas.
I had already heard some good things about the programme from acquaintances. When I looked into the programme myself, I found the course offerings to be diverse and engaging, covering a broad array of issues in the international and European tax arena. Additionally, I thought the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) method seemed like an interesting approach, as it was very different from what I had encountered before. This is why I chose to study in Maastricht.
The Master's programme does keep you busy, but I think it is very rewarding because the teaching methods are engaging. The hard work really pays off. That being said, there is also plenty of time to enjoy student life in Maastricht, so there is a nice balance between studying and enjoying your free time in the city.
My favourite course in the Master's programme was the very first one, the Fundamentals of International Taxation. It was an excellent introduction to international tax matters and comprehensively covered all the basic areas of the field. This course provided a strong foundation to build upon throughout the rest of the programme.
If you are interested in international taxation, this is the place to be. The quality of teaching is high, and the topics covered in the courses are relevant, whether you already have experience in the field or are just beginning to develop an interest in tax law. This programme is well-suited for both experienced professionals and those without prior work experience in the field.
