I chose the Systems Biology master at Maastricht University because of the application of systems biology approaches especially for human health.

I chose the Systems Biology master because of the application of systems biology approaches especially for human health. Additionally, the close contact between professors and students due to the small number of students in the program made me chose this master at Maastricht University.

How would you describe Problem-Based Learning to a friend?

During Problem-Based Learning students are in charge of their learning process. Throughout these sessions, we formulate our own learning goals, do our own literature search, and discuss our findings to each other. Of course, these sessions are guided by a tutor to ensure we cover all the relevant subjects.

How is your student life?

I think my student life currently consists of a healthy balance between study-related activities and non-study activities. Next to my studies I love to play (beach)volleyball, which is why I joined the student volleyball association at UM sports.

To me, Problem-Based Learning is about learning and understanding problems together with your classmates, while having guidance from your teachers. This forced me to think more about course materials allowing me to understand better.

Coming from a large city, Barcelona, it was quite a big change when I first came to Maastricht. However, since it is a student city, there is always something to do. Especially during the warmer months, there are loads of events, concerts, activities.
