“Maastricht is such a vibrant student city. Students are everywhere! There is also so many bars and café that there is a cosy place for everyone. One of the best things about Maastricht is everything is right at your doorstep, you will never end up biking more than 20 minutes to go from one place to another.”
Why did you choose your master’s programme at Maastricht University?
Well, I did my bachelor’s Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at Maastricht University. This master’s just seemed like the perfect continuation. I truly enjoyed the quality of education during the bachelor’s, as well as the opportunities to apply knowledge to solve an exciting problem through Project Centred Learning. Besides, something I believe is unique to Maastricht University is the international environment. Of all my classmates and teachers, 80% are non-Dutch.
How is your student life?
Thrilling! It can be hard at first since the master’s programme is quite demanding, but once you find the right balance and get up to speed, you realize there is just so much to do in Maastricht. However, to be honest, getting some drinks with friends and playing tennis when I am not studying are probably the highlights of most of my weekends. I’m really into cycling and tennis. I’m actually part of M.S.T.V. Stennis, the tennis student association here in Maastricht
What are your plans after graduating?
I must admit, I did not gave this many thoughts yet. Probably, I will be working as a data scientist in the industry. There are so many opportunities out there within the Netherlands and the Euregion. I had the chance to apply data science and artificial intelligence in sport analytics during my bachelor’s and master’s study. Continuing in this field would be amazing!

The Department of Advanced Computing Sciences of Maastricht University has been doing research since 1987; surely 35 years ago not many people knew what Artificial Intelligence was. The experience of this department is why I came to study my bachelor’s in the first place.

I see myself working in research, using my cultural background to integrate teams working all around the globe. Investigating state-of-the-art techniques and methods to help solve problems that we might not even know exist yet.

We do lots of brain storming, write some code or set up some math. We get regular advice from the project supervisor. Sometimes the advice is very helpful. Other times it is not helpful.

A very nice place in my faculty is the Swarmlab, where you get access to equipment you don’t usually have.
