I have always found the student community at UCM to be very welcoming. Whether it’s having a chat with a student while I wait for some tea or asking for help in a course, everyone is approachable and friendly.

UCM’s welcoming community
I have been incredibly lucky with my experience at UCM so far, as the time has been wonderful. The community was warm and welcoming from the beginning, which made it easy to fit in. I have also had the opportunity to interact with very enthusiastic and knowledgeable tutors in many different subjects, which has made it a pleasure to learn about the subjects. Lastly, the different events that UCM hosts, such as open mic night and the different committee events such as the theatre production, have all made my time at UCM very enjoyable.

Student teacher relations
The many different events hosted by the different committees and UCM also helps to keep me connected with everyone. In regard to tutors, most, if not all of the tutors I have encountered have been easily approachable. They are enthusiastic and knowledgeable about their subjects and have always invested the time in answering my emails or questions. In general, due to the smaller classes at UCM, you are also able to get to know your tutors more intimately, which makes it much easier to approach them as well.

Getting around Maastricht
I have found the locals in Maastricht to be very friendly and speaking English has never been a problem because so many people are able to switch to English from Dutch if needed. I also love how convenient it is to bike around Maastricht, as there are designated bike paths almost everywhere and the traffic is very conscious of cyclists.

I remember my first impression of UCM – I came into the building and was greeted by the staff. The common room was filled with students speaking several languages while someone played guitar in the background – it felt like a scene from a movie.

I think the community is what makes UCM so special. You always feel like you are studying with a big family around you, ready to support you when you are in need, but also ready to share the most incredible experiences with you.

The most valuable thing I’ve learned during UCM is that 'it isn’t always that deep'. Sometimes you need to let go of your extreme concernedness about certain things...
