I think the community is what makes UCM so special. You always feel like you are studying with a big family around you, ready to support you when you are in need, but also ready to share the most incredible experiences with you.

Building your own curriculum
During my first year, I had the opportunity to take courses in every single of the academic fields I had had an interest in. This first-hand experience allowed me to really understand what I wanted to focus on academically, without having that “what if?” in my head, regarding my other interests.

Strengths of PBL
I rarely enjoy going to lectures and sitting there for 2 hours listening to a professor speak. Tutorials, however, are very engaging and I find it very exciting to have interesting debates with my peers. The contact with my fellow students is excellent and I really feel like I am part of a fantastic community. At UCM, lecturers are close to students, which makes the relationship so much more amicable and the tutorials feel more like a conversation between peers than a strict teacher lecturing.

Maastricht as an excellent student city
Maastricht is small enough that you can get everywhere with a bike in less than 20 minutes. But it is also socially rich enough that you do not get bored. Additionally, as a large portion of the population is made up of students, it feels like you are in a place you belong to, a place where you have something in common with everyone. Lastly, it is such an international city, you hear a variety of languages every day, which makes me feel right at home.

I remember my first impression of UCM – I came into the building and was greeted by the staff. The common room was filled with students speaking several languages while someone played guitar in the background – it felt like a scene from a movie.

The most valuable thing I’ve learned during UCM is that 'it isn’t always that deep'. Sometimes you need to let go of your extreme concernedness about certain things...
