I chose UCM because it is different; I could not imagine walking into an impersonal lecture hall of 500 students. I did not want to sit through aimless presentations, memorize the information and pass the exam but fail to apply what I had learned.

I know many of my classmates and tutors personally. Because of the smaller groups, tutors can actively contribute to our growth, I feel like they want to see us succeed. For example, in one course during my first year, I was really struggling to digest the materials and I voiced this concern to my tutor. This tutor met me after a lecture and broke down the outcome of every single tutorial on a white board. I am 100% sure that I would not have seen success in that course without that experience.

After nearly two years at UCM, I feel that I have grown in many aspects and maintained the knowledge passed onto me by fellow students and tutors.

After I graduate, I will be moving back to Guatemala where I was living in 2016. I want to get some journalism experience as well as work in the indigenous Mayan communities.
