Lieke van Grootel (Germany), European Public Health
EPH offers a wide range of topics in interdisciplinary fashion, which perfectly reflects my various interests, ranging from disease prevention to ethical discourses related to health

"Like many other graduating secondary school students, I found it quite difficult to find a degree programme that suited me and all my various interests. In order to make a mature decision on where to study – and especially what to study – I visited several universities. When I arrived at Maastricht University (UM) I immediately felt at home.

I often experience students tending to shy away from UM due to the PBL system. But it teaches very valuable skills, such as communicating, presentation skills and developing confidence!

The bachelor’s programme in European Public Health (EPH) in specific is a unique programme. It offers a wide range of topics in interdisciplinary fashion, which perfectly reflects my various interests, ranging from disease prevention to ethical discourses related to health.

Furthermore, EPH stimulates students to study abroad during the minor in the second year or during the placement in the third year. This encourages students to gain an international perspective, while also facilitating an extraordinary study experience. For my future career, I would like to have the opportunity to work abroad and perhaps pursue a career in Entrepreneurial Management in Healthcare or Policy Management.

Not only does UM makes you feel at home, the whole city of Maastricht is very welcoming to students, whether international students or otherwise. This vibrant city is not only very beautiful, but also has plenty of bars and cafés to spend your nights in."
