My dream is to work as a sports physiotherapist, integrating my in-depth knowledge about physical and psychological aspects
“I wanted to learn how to perform research and to interpret information and at the same time improve my knowledge about sports performance. The problem-based learning method was a key factor in my decision to come to Maastricht.
I have two bachelor’s degrees, the first in physiotherapy and a second in psychology. Osteopathy is another specialisation. The interaction between the physical and the psychological aspects in physiotherapy in general and in a sports environment in particular is very interesting. I’m a keen basketball player myself, but I also love body building and playing football. After my bachelor’s degrees, I wanted to dive deeper into the research aspects of sports physiotherapy. I want to improve as a professional and treat my patients from a more scientific background, while also applying all my knowledge about the psychological aspects. In my view that’s the best approach a patient can possibly get.
I’m also a great believer in the use of social media. Health professionals should use this more to spread the word. It brings you more into contact with patients and you can use a tool like YouTube to explain things. If you want to reach more people, these are the things you need to do.
I love living in Maastricht, it’s so easy-going. I’m really learning a lot because the programme is very interactive which allows me to develop my soft skills as well as improve my English.
My dream is to work as a sports physiotherapist, applying all the knowledge I have gained through my degrees in ‘both worlds’.”
