The course provides students with theoretical and practical insights into the ever-evolving landscape of online presence; the intricate world of physical, hybrid, and virtual identities; virtual environments; and the intersection of reality and virtuality. Practical components of the course - including the development of avatars, navigation into various metaverses, and engagement with augmented reality applications - will enable students to develop nuanced understandings of virtual existence and its implications on personal identity and social interactions. Through the analysis and interpretation of a range of materials, including journalistic texts, documentaries, and live game streams, students will be challenged to question and redefine their understanding of what constitutes reality in the digital age.

At the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of the historical trajectory of virtual worlds and the construction of online identities;
- Be able to reflect on the creation of avatars and on the relationship between actual and virtual selves;
- Write phenomenological anecdotes to effectively communicate and reflect upon personal experiences in virtual worlds;
- Critically read journalistic and academic texts and watch documentaries and game streams in relation to the realness of virtual experiences;
- Experience first hand virtual reality and the use of software and hardware to access virtual worlds.
