This course focuses on communication skills. External communication is an important part of a range of jobs. While we often associate the use of external communication with PR and corporations, both traditional and social media is of course also widely used by political actors to communicate with other countries’ representatives and support their more formal diplomacy efforts. In this course you will learn more about how these communication channels are used in foreign policy. The course also gives you the chance to put yourself in the “shoes” of an EU neighbouring country or rising power and imagine how they may try to influence the EU on topics that are important to them.

The assessment for this course is a group communication portfolio. You will take the role of an external actor who wants to influence the EU on a current issue, develop a communication strategy to do so, and create traditional and social media output to match that strategy.
