Chemical Ecology
Volledige vakbeschrijving
Chemical ecology is the study of how chemicals, called semiochemicals, mediate interactions within and between species. In this course we will examine how the different classes of semiochemicals are used by organisms. We will examine how chemists and biologists study these interactions and how some of these interactions can be used to assist humans, by manipulating organisms in the nature.Doelstellingen van dit vak
• To understand what chemical ecology is • To gain a knowledge of the chemical bases of a diversity of intraspecific and interspecific interactions • To understand the contributions that both chemists and biologists make to chemical ecology • To understand a variety of the methodological techniques used in chemical ecology • To understand how semiochemicals may be used in human endeavours such as pest controlAanbevolen literatuur
