The ingested nutrients affect cellular pathways. If these pathways become disturbed, it may result in disease, which requires special dietary interventions. In this course, mechanisms by which nutrients affect metabolic control will be studied at the cellular level. A focus is on the interplay between diet and inflammation, a common denominator in several disorders. Knowledge will be translated to inflammatory diseases and possibilities of different forms of nutritional support in a clinical setting. Finally, attention will be given how diet may interact with drugs (nutrient-drug interaction). Examples from real-life situations will used.
