Technology Transfer and Transaction Practice

This module deals with the intricacies of Intellectual Property Rights as assets that can be transferred and assigned or used as collateral for financing purposes. The course focuses on (i) ownership aspects of IPRs, (ii) transfer Issues, (iii) the use of IPRs as an object of security rights (mortgage or pledge) and (iv) related private international law issues. In addition, the module covers the strategic considerations and practical contractual business arrangements for the technology transfer and transaction practice, including the valuation of IPR portfolios.
The course also covers the strategic considerations and practical contractual business arrangements for technology transfer and transaction practice, especially licensing, but also places these in the context of the deeper-rooted policies that drive innovation and economic growth in the wider sphere of EU, WTO and WIPO development objectives.

At the end of this course, the student is conversant with the international transfer and assignment of IPRs and the use thereof as collateral for investors or banks and negotiation strategies involving intellectual property and is conversant with topics such as valuation methods.
