Cultural Pluralism
Volledige vakbeschrijving
Contemporary western societies are characterised by cultural plurality: different social communities have different values, life styles and levels of tolerance. Over the past decade, this diversity has become a growing source of concern about how to properly reconcile the demands of plurality and identity, in order to safeguard social and cultural cohesion. The course examines a number of normative dilemmas that arise from the current co-existence of a diversity of cultural traditions; discussions are about universalism and relativism, secularism and the come-back of religion, human rights and animal rights, media and the politics of fear.Doelstellingen van dit vak
