This course provides an overview of the major branches of biological sciences and the fundamental processes relevant to each. The major topic areas covered are ecology, evolution, cell and molecular biology, genetics, and organismal biology. For each topic, you will explore how the content connects to the central concepts of all biological sciences: regulation, self-organization, evolution, inheritance, communication, and interaction.Doelstellingen van dit vak
After this course, students should be able to: • Apply basic knowledge of ecology, evolution, and molecular and organismal biology to discuss cutting-edge biological research and its impacts on society. • Explain how the following six core biological concepts apply to the multiple scales of organization and time in biological systems: regulation, self-organization, evolution, inheritance, communication, and interaction. • Do calculations relevant to biological concepts.Aanbevolen literatuur
