Bioinformatics Skills
Volledige vakbeschrijving
This course builds upon the first year Basic Programming Skills course and is particularly useful for students leaning towards the Sustainable Biotechnology concentration. It offers in-depth insights in bioinformatics topics by studying simulations that are executed in a MATLAB/SIMULINK environment. The focus is not on programming, but rather on using existing models such as population and infectious disease (outbreak) modelling, Malthusian modelling, evolutionary stability of Mendel’s law on segregation or applying a Bioinformatics Toolbox to perform a DNA sequence alignment using classification. By modifying important parameters in these models, you gain deeper insights in the underlying principles and learn how to apply computer models to derive answers for complex engineering problems. You complete computer assignments which includes a report discussing the variations in parameters.SKI2102
