Spectroscopic Methods
Volledige vakbeschrijving
This course focuses on several topics in analytical chemistry and will contain: • Identification and structure elucidation of molecules and materials with advanced spectroscopy and spectrometry • UV-Vis spectroscopy • FT-IR spectroscopy • 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy • Mass spectrometry Depending on timing, interest and number of students, there may also be some time devoted to mechanical and thermal analysis (e.g. DSC, TGA, rheology), the use of electroanalytical techniques and the determination of physical-chemical properties of compounds, such as lipophilicity, solubility, optical activity, pKa and dissolution.Doelstellingen van dit vak
• To learn to identify chemical compounds using a variety of available analytical techniques. • To have a basic understanding of the theoretical background of the measurement principles typically used in spectroscopy and spectrometry. • To be able to develop an analytical strategy to identify an unknown compound. • To be able to operate typical spectroscopic instruments.Voorwaarden
